Purchasing your lumber from a sawmill may sound intimidating, but there are many benefits to buying your wood directly from the source. Not only does purchasing directly from the mill help keep prices low, but it can also be a more sustainable option than when you buy material from a big box store.

Some species of rough-cut softwood could sell for roughly $1 per board foot. Meanwhile Ebony, one of the rarest and most expensive species in the world, sells for $100 or more. With that in mind, you should think about what is a reasonable cost for the wood you have and what someone is willing to pay for it.
