Upside has greater cashback potential than GasBuddy. Both apps offer similar gas deals at the pumps, but Upside offers a broader range of other deals. Upside offers cash back at over 50,000 restaurants, grocery markets, and supermarkets while GasBuddy offers cash back at only a couple dozen national chains.

Alongside today's round, the company said it's rebranding the name of its app from GetUpside to Upside, to reflect its belief that it offers “upside” for customers and businesses alike.

Tap Claim when you see an offer you like. Head to the business (tap Directions to make sure you go to the right location). Pay with a debit or credit card that's linked to your Upside Wallet or use Upside Pay. Wait for your offer to process and the cash back you earned to appear in your account.

This means that you might not get the best deal 100% of the time if you're solely comparing prices on Upside. There is a $10 minimum to withdraw to a bank account and a $15 minimum to withdraw via PayPal. If you'd like to withdraw your earnings before you reach these thresholds, you'll be charged a $1 cash-out fee.

Upside Cash Back App Cons

It does not work with cash. You can only redeem a receipt if you pay with a credit or debit card. The app is not available everywhere. There are some location where Upside does not offer cashback options.

Ensure you're in the right account

You may no longer be in your original account. When you tap a "Continue with" button on the sign-in screen, you create a new account. If you earned cash back in the past, look for emails from Upside about those purchases. The To field will contain your Upside account email address.

You can also cash out your earnings as an e-gift card to retailers you love, like Amazon, Walmart, and so many more. With Upside, you can earn up to 25¢/gal cash back on gas, up to 45% back at restaurants, and up to 30% back at grocery stores.
